frustrating in an oddly sufferable way
yup. that encapsulates it.

packing up some clothes, ptuting together the playlists, iPod, and the CDs. there is great anticipation, if only the drive didnt lie between. bringing darts, beer, cigars, DVDs....all the fixins for a great time. we will hope that the traffic doesn't suck all the life out of the weekend.
it will be good to get out of williamsburg

They got little hands
Little eyes
They walk around
Tellin' great big lies
They got little noses
And tiny little teeth
They wear platform shoes
On their nasty little feet
They got little baby legs
That stand so low
You got to pick 'em up
Just to say hello
They got little cars
That go beep, beep, beep
They got little voices
Goin' peep, peep, peep
They got grubby little fingers
And dirty little minds
They're gonna get you every time
Well, I don't want no Short People
Round here...

WOW
I cant put it into words. amazing. I know I will never truly be able to express what tonight was like. Karla Petty is the only other one who can truly understand. The rest of you missed out and will just have to settle for my feeble attempts to convey the absolutely breathtaking and awe-inspiring night of musical beauty that was just experience. It was worth it all to share it with someone you care about. I love the feeling of being able to give that to someone as a gift. So even if it is cheesy, I will do it like this, cause it is true:
Lancaster: see Gadjo Playboys, see C & E, round trip 564 miles, 8 hours
Cleveland: see Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame, get Area 51, round trip 1034 miles, 17 hours
Steamboat Springs: see beautiful mountains, drive ZoomZoom, round trip 312 miles, 6 hours
Harrisonburg: see Rebecca, watch 8 Mile on a Friday night at JMU, winning field goal, round trip 360 miles, 6 hours
The Cottage: see the family, play with Charlie, kayaking, chilling, round trip 100 miles, 4 hours
NOVA: great conversations, traffic, round trip, done many times, 300 miles, 5 hours
Multiple Trips to Norfolk and VABeach: about and hour each
Hours spent in the car together: over 60?
Hours spent listening to/discussing music or going to concerts together: incalculable. Probably over 60, just in the car.
Gas money: who knows...?
Birthday dinner at the restaurant she has been wanting to go to, including a fabulous bottle of wine: $70
Using all the time we have spent together, especially sharing our love of music, to jump at the opportunity to buy her concert tickets for her birthday: $50 (well for the tickets, not the time)
Days of waiting for the final payoff on the birthday present: 13 days
The look of surprise/love/amazement/overwhelming emotion/joy immediately appear on her face when the surprise is revealed with the words "Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Martin Sexton": priceless
A smile that forces its way out for the rest of the night, not to be denied its time to shine: priceless
Standing next to the person you think of when you hear the lyrics (listed below) to When You Come Back Down, as they are sung to you live in an energetic venue: priceless
Dancing and clapping to celebrate the courage it takes to attempt to infiltrate the national music scene with bluegrass/appalachian music: priceless
Seeing Nickel Creek sing songs about short people and Britney Spears' Toxic: priceless
Knowing and trusting someone so much to share life with them and get excited for every opportunity to spend time with them: priceless
Going through so much together, learning so much about each other, to get to the point where you know enough and care enough to do something this huge and this special, just because: priceless
i dont know if i can or should say anymore right now. i have run out of words, with which i have made a feeble attempt to express my contentment and fulfillment and joy following this sequence of amazing events we call life, hitting a high point tonight. words are not enough, so i will end with the promised lyrics, even if it is hard to think about.
You gotta leave me now
You gotta go along
You gotta chase a dream
One that’s all your own
Before it slips away
When you’re flying high
Take my heart along
I’ll be the harmony
To every lonely song
But you’ll learn to play
When you’re soaring through the air
I’ll be your solid ground
Take every chance you dare
I’ll still be there
When you come back down
When you come back down
I keep looking up
Waiting your return
My greatest fear will be
That you will crash and burn
And I won’t feel your fire
I’ll be the other hand
That always holds a line
Connecting in between
Your sweet heart and mine
I’m strung out on that wire
And I’ll be on the other end
To hear you when you call
Angel you were born to fly
And if you get too high
I’ll catch you when you fall
Catch you when you fall
The memories, the sunshine
Every new day brings
I know the sky is calling
Angel let me help you with your wings
When you’re soaring through the air
I’ll be your solid ground
Take every chance you dare
I’ll still be there
When you come back down
Take every chance you dare
I’ll still be there
When you come back down
When you come back down

that is all
