It is pretty much widely accepted to have a female commentator on the sidelines for every football game to give us an in-depth look into the game (is this because we assume women can sense or feel the emotional charge of momentum and passion on the sidelines better than a man can?). Personally, I have always been opposed to this attempt to freshen and lighten the broadcast with a sweet female voice and some pretty "eye candy" to throw up on the screen.Granted, I am not as opposed to the sideline reporters as I am the women who actually do the play-by-play sportscasting (you know who you are, Pam Ward), but with their Captain Obvious comments and observations, I wonder if the sideline reporters are anything more than a pretty face to put in front of the camera and talk about football (with their seemingly elementary understanding of the game). Sadly, there are many whose looks have gone the way of the buffalo, and by that I mean both relocated to the mountains of Wyoming and also covered with hair.
So, should they be pulled? Maybe they understand football and can talk into a microphone, but does the audience really want that or do they just want some hottie with words pertaining to football coming out of her glitter-glossed mouth as we zone everything out and stare at the screen?
Well, apparently a couple individuals have taken it upon themselves to answer this question by compiling lists of the hottest sportscasters currently on the tube. I found FoxSports list first as I was looking at some fantasy football scores (yeah, this kinda gives a whole new definition to fantasy football... or football fantasy rather). It seemed pretty good and I don't have too many complaints. I do hope that this list isn't in order because Shana Hiatt, Erin Andrews, and Rachel Nichols should be higher. Speaking of which, why not let us vote or rank? I want my opinion to be heard!! What about Suzy Kolber? Or the little known NASCAR reporter, Shannon Spake? Even Michelle Bonner and the inner monologue battling to convince you she actually is hot?
