Day two of Monkey Week:
Starts off really well, thanks to Manhattan Bagel. I have been a faithful patron for quite some time now, be it rather infrequently. My allegiance to the bagels and other breakfast fodder supplied by Manhattan Bagel is very clear and definitive against the competition, Big Apple Bagel, Dunkin Donuts, etc...
My interest and loyalty to MB began one Sunday morning after church when we decided to stop there. I ordered "The Original Classic," (which seems kinda of redundant to me, but oh well) with egg, cheese, and sausage. I was amazed, not only do these sweet asian people ask you kindly to go take a seat at a table, give you a number, and bring your food out to you, but the eggs are REAL EGGS! I kid you not. they arent the liquid form that Big Apple pours into the Tupperware to microwave and cook. No. real eggs. Real white and yolks, really fried. Like for serious.
I was floored and elated at the same time. so now that is the only place i go to when i have a desire for a bagel sandwich or any other breakfast fodder i cant prepare myself. And that brings us to this morning. I have been ordering the sausage, egg, and cheese consistently now since that first time. It is kinda the same way with me and Chipotle, I tried it for the first time and it blew my mind, i dont want to change what I order because i might be disappointed.
Yet, today I decided to try something different. ham. yes, ham. as in the preferred dinner for llamas, whether they are called Tina or not, as in the primary export of the nation of Guam, as in the famous, salt-cured, lethal-sodium-levels, Virginia Ham. I had no idea that they would actually use the heavily salted (and infinitely delicious) Virginia Ham on this bagel. It didnt say that anywhere on the menu, I wasnt expecting it, but it was an incredible surprise. So there I am, at my desk at the beginning of the day, unwrapping my next great adventure in breakfast food, an everything bagel, with real fried eggs, cheese and Virginia Ham. I know these owners are from asia and the franchise is from Manhattan, but these boys know how to make a breakfast sandwich, that is for sure.
So needless to say, things are off to a good start.
Upcoming:
Bottlerocket, Pints and Pipes, Godfather III, Neopolitan Dynamite, Starr Hill, Martin Sexton, Campus Golf, Katie Bahr, napping, sleeping in....and general awesomeness.

The Curse of Lloyd Dobler
this is one of the reasons guys hate romantic movies, they make our job harder. they make us feel inadequate and the women we spend time with feel dissatisfied. the glorification of what could be (or should be) in the realm of romance and relationships by Hollywood is causing more damage than we can see immediately. you are fabricating a character that has almost mythical qualities, but his life is lived within the controlled, orchestrated, safe reality of a film's plot, not in real life. So many women are looking for Lloyd Dobler or want to mold and shape and change their man to be more like Lloyd. Well, here is the news flash: Lloyd is a fictional character. (i can almost hear the gasps from here) it is true, he is fake. It is false. the film has pulled at your heartstrings so hard that you give into his reality before you can think about the fact that it isnt real. the consequence is the elevation across the board of female expectations from a boyfriend. You have to be Lloyd Dobler to measure up, you have to fit my fantasy of the perfect man, or I will always be disappointed and will want more.
Lloyd, you screwed us all over. When you do something incredibly out of the ordinary and unexpected, the next time, you are expected to do something even better. There's nothing like the feeling that you have to compete with or measure up to a fictional overly-romaticized character.

finally....
and just as the word of it began to leak out into the community. And it is just in time, because i am exhausted and worn out from this past weekend, my body is just now getting hit by the lack of sleep that i experienced over the weekend.
and so it goes....onward and upward. always pressing forward. and on to Monkey Week we go. this means my focus is changed from work and stress to procrastination and naps and good food and watching movies... i think I am definitely ok with that and could use some time to rest and take care of myself.
the movies-to-watch list will be visited multiple times this week, I can sense that.

I dont know how it happens, but it seems that the perfect song always comes on when it needs to. People can complain about the iPod and iTunes Shuffle algorithms all they want. It continues to make me happy. Exactly what I need to hear. Two within the span of a half hour that were absolutely perfect:
"Body Parts" by Jump, Little Children
What makes you hot?
Something that you want but you haven't got
Isn't that the way? Just a game to play, all day.
"I'm Yours" by Jason Mraz
Well open up your mind and see like me,
Open up your plans and damn you're free,
Look into your heart and you'll find love.
Listen to the music of the moment maybe sing with me
Ah la peaceful melody; It's your God-forsaken right to be loved
So i won't hesitate no more,
It cannot wait I'm sure
There's no need to complicate
Our time is short
This is our fate, I'm yours

wow, another great article, this one on evolution and religion and the former's attempt to paint the latter as irrelevant. (the link is at the bottom, but you have to read through my reaction first to get there)
it is a long one, but it really is worth the read. Well-written, as objective as one can be. Presenting the opinions and stances from all sides to build up to an interestingly anti-climactic and post-modernistic ending. Leaving you with the statement, "You decide."
It is interesting because I have held a stance similar to this for a long time. Trying to exclude a holy God from the picture of life by making science the ruling body. Our human inclination to pass the blame and avoid conviction and responsibility has bled into our religious construct. we want to be our own god, we dont want to have to answer to anyone. we want to have the facts and know everything and be completely autonomous in our fallen state of perpetual sinning, able to exclude the reality of a Creator God who is jealous and demands our allegiance and worship.
It is so much easier for science to be the basis for life and politics. it isnt faith; it is something tangible. it is something we can do, something we can prove. but the evolution of this theory has spawned the reality that the scientific community has taken control of all academic pursuits, so that Orwell's Thought Police will keep you from thinking about anything other than what they want you to hear. you will believe what the Machine tells you to believe, you will be taught that there is no other possible explanation, you are told that you are closed-minded and imbecilic if you believe or attempt to support an opposing stance. You have no choice but to believe what they preach. and the result is that God is painted out of the picture, his creation is nothing more than a random chaotic mix of genes and chromosomes and DNA, the one who was created in His image is now an upgraded version of a protozoa...replaced by rationality and the scientific method. No God, no faith, no soul.
one of the greatest points, which unfortunately strikes close to home in a lot of the areas I have studied, how can you still support anything that Darwin preaches when his theories, specifically in The Descent of Man, convinced Hitler that his race was superior and that the Jews were inferior and that any weak, sick, injured, impaired human being, a prized creation in God's eyes, must be exterminated in order to cleanse the human race with the intention of removing those individuals Darwin claimed were "highly injurious to the race of man."
here are some quotes from the article to whet your appetite:
"If Galileo and Copernicus were the scientific rebels who were
once punished by the dogma and authority of the church, these advocates now
believe that they are being punished by the dogma and authority of science."
"...natural selection may favor those who do not believe in natural selection..."
and here is that actual link to the article...
